Mission

Kings Mountain Associated Parents (kmap) is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that coordinates and represents parents and caregivers of students at kings mountain elementary school (kmes) to maintain long-term success for this distinguished school. Kmap raises funds for enrichment programs, school events, and staffing to support high quality education, a positive school experience, and community building. It also serves as a vehicle of communication and collaboration between school families, school staff, the coastside and kings mountain communities, other cusd schools, cabrillo education foundation, external education initiatives and the cabrillo unified school district (cusd) district office and administration. Funds secured by kmap are distributed with discretion for the educational and enrichment needs of the students.

The fundraiser was a fantastic success and we once again sold out of our cookies by monday morning. We hosted all of our traditional events including the welcome picnic, first day of school tea & tissues, stone soup gathering, recital receptions, open house, field day, and graduation. Our efforts to support high quality education and a positive educational experience included funding a dedicated science specialist, curriculum supplements, assemblies, supply stipends, and field trips. We also approved one off larger classroom needs as requested. We continued to fund, in partnership with the school district, a third full-time teacher at the school. We also made increased efforts to raise the profile of the school site in hopes of reaching more students who would benefit from the small school environment. Our primary investment here was to support the establishment of a school…

3 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 23% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of KINGS MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATED PARENTS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

KINGS MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATED PARENTS leans on a few funders — its largest provides 77% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund KINGS MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATED PARENTS.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $56k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
