01What it does

What Jr El Tour Inc does

Mission

To create a long-term positive impact on the health and fitness of at-risk children by developing and fostering a connection to cycling. We cater to children struggling with issues such as obesity, inactivity, low self-esteem, financial hardship, & learning differences. Many of our children would not have the opportunity or the confidence to pursue cycling if not for involvement in our program. Our goal is to give children all the tools they need to reach and maintain their health and fitness goals in a fun, organized, and supportive team environment. We strive to provide high-quality coaching and individual attention to all the children in the program, so that they can become responsible and safe cyclists. We believe family support is imperative to making lasting changes, so parent participation is encouraged on all rides and in the el tour race. Our program operates on multiple levels over the course of 10 months or more, depending on the interest of the child and family.

As stated on its FY2021 Form 990-EZ.

Program

Jr. El tour inc. Became an independent exempt-entity in 2015 after having existed as a program of perimeter bicycling association of america (pbaa) for a number of years. During 2021, we trained approximately 30 at-risk children ages 10-12 to ride in the el tour and annual 57 mile cycling event held in tucson, arizona. Each participant was provided a bicycle to train with and those who finished the training an the el tour race were able to keep their bikes. All 30 kids along with 7 additional participants who were returning as mentors that had completed the program in prior years completed the ride.

The first program described on its most recent Form 990-EZ.

3 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 73% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of JR EL TOUR INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

JR EL TOUR INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 55% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund JR EL TOUR INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $120k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
