What Jewish Tapestry Project Inc does
Mission
The Jewish Tapestry Project's goal is to help communities in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe to self-develop, focusing initially on Belarus. It is a true revival, a Jewish renaissance and a new and fresh approach to people-led community growth, where members of the communities take the lead. The Jewish Tapestry Project draws its inspiration for projects around three central pillars past, present and future and each project drives a central belief which can be distilled into one line
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Program
More than two decades later, the silence has been broken. On July 28, a striking new memorial?Memory Embrace?was unveiled on a portion of the original cemetery in Brest, Belarus. It is the culmination of a two-decade effort to restore dignity to a sacred site that was destroyed by the Nazis and paved over by the Soviets. The monument, built from recovered headstones, now stands as a public act of remembrance and reclamation.
The first program described on its most recent Form 990-EZ.
Who funds it, year by year
2022 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $51k → $10k.
2 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 50% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of Jewish Tapestry Project Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
Jewish Tapestry Project Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 50% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
50% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Jewish Tapestry Project Inc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2022 99% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
Jewish Tapestry Project Inc draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside North Carolina, across 2 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $60k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
