What Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion Inc does
Mission
To educate and inspire an appreciation and understanding of insects and other arthropods and their place in the ecosystem.
As stated on its FY2023 Form 990.
Programs
On its FY2023 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.
IBP was evicted from its facilities May 30, 2023, pursuant to a writ of possession obtained in a foreclosure suit. The Pennsylvania Superior Court has already opined that the underlying order was void and of no effect and the writ was not supported by Pennsylvania statutes or procedure in a foreclosure matter. The matter is under appeal. 1278 EDA 2023.
Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).
Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion focuses on education and the understanding of insects, butterflies, and other arthropods. We are open to the public seven days a week. The Insectarium conducts live and virtual tours for individuals, groups, and schools. Our visitors are exposed to various exhibits, lectures, and demonstrations. IBP continued its activities remotely by providing video presentations to local schools and groups during the periods of restricted activity due to the pandemic.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $3.3M to $34k (−99%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2019 0% · 2020 22% · 2021 50%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
