01What it does

What Independence Classical Academy Inc does

Mission

Independence classical academy exists to provide a disciplined and highly engaging learning environment rich in scholarship, character building, citizenship, moral virtue, civics, and liberal arts. This time-tested, classical liberal arts education will ensure students are highly prepared, through rigorous and relevant core content with an emphasis on literacy, to be highly productive and successful citizens with a strong sense of character and civic responsibility.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Independence classical academy exists to fill a role in public education that is currently missing in st. Lucie county. A virtuous environment in which to provide an academically rigorous curriculum where good moral virtue is not only encouraged, but expected. A place where teachers can teach, and students will learn. Offering a setting free from digital learning and the distractions of screens and pressures of social media that many kids are fixated on in today's world, we are able to hone in on creating critical thinkers that are fluent readers, writers, and speakers. Students in our academy are being taught that character counts, and that they are capable of hard things. Kids are getting outdoors, experiencing learning for all learning styles, and being held accountable for their own learning gains, as opposed to spending ten months learning how to pass a standardized test. The culture at ica is that of a family, and the gains our students make academically are largely tied to the environment in which they are taught, a small, highly structured school that focuses on knowing all of our kids, and getting them to reach their full potential.

1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 71% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is

INDEPENDENCE CLASSICAL ACADEMY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 71% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

71% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund INDEPENDENCE CLASSICAL ACADEMY INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

71% of INDEPENDENCE CLASSICAL ACADEMY INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $500 that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from Florida funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
