01What it does

What Idaho City Historical Foundation does

Mission

It is the mission of The Foundation to dedicate itself to the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the Boise Basin of Idaho as an historical area for present and future generations.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. The Idaho City Historical Foundation is trying to capture and preserve the flavor of life in the bustling mining camps that grew up in a few short months after gold was discovered on Grimes creek in August 1862, revealing what it was like to live in Boise Basin in the years between 1862 and 1890 when Idaho became a state. We do so through our three museums, all housed in historic buildings dating from the 1800's and have relied heavily upon descriptions and representations of those people and events. It is the mission of the Foundation to dedicate itself to the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the Boise Basin of Idaho as an historical area for present and future generations. The Foundation will develop goals and objectives that further its mission and will strive to focus all activities of The Foundation on achievement of these goals and objectives. We also maintain four other historic buildings for occasional viewing and, with the City of Idaho City, restore and maintain the historic cemetery, with gravesites dating back to the 1860s. Recent donations have allowed us to create a mining history trail and a logging history display.

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income rose $10 → $36.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $172 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
