What Health Poverty Action USA does
Mission
Health Poverty Action USA acts in solidarity with health workers, activists & communities worldwide to improve health & challenge the causes of poverty. We do this in 3 distinct ways: 1. We approach health as an issue of social justice. We recognize that the greatest causes of poor health worldwide are political, social & economic injustices. That is why we tackle the root causes of poor health as well as the symptoms. 2. We prioritize those missed out by others. Development organizations tend to cluster together which leaves large populations with almost no support at all. We make these most neglected populations our highest priority. 3. We address the full range of factors which impact on health. As well as strengthening health services we work on areas such as nutrition, water, sanitation, immunization, & income generation. Tackling one cause of poor health in isolation can give the appearance of improving health, but in reality might do little more than change the cause of death.
As stated on its FY2026 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
We work with communities and public health services to improve access to equitable, culturally appropriate care for Indigenous Maya communities in Guatemala, directly supporting 2,368 people through this full project. We are supporting the Ministry of Health to expand culturally appropriate services from 7 to 33 districts, including training staff in intercultural care across health centers and hospitals and equipping facilities with appropriate resources. We have also facilitated dialogue between communities and health workers to build trust and supported practical initiatives, such as building/strengthening 24 medicinal plant gardens that bring together Indigenous Maya medicine and public health practice. This means that community members do not have to decide whether to retain cultural values and practices or to abandon them for state health services. Additionally, we have begun developing a culturally appropriate approach to mental health therapies to address conditions that are taboo, so often go unrecognized, through interviews with Traditional Birth Attendants, Curers, Spiritual Guides and community Nurses to gauge their understanding of various mental health conditions.…
$30,000 spentof which $50,000 as grants28% of program spendingHealth Poverty Action USA served as fiscal sponsor, providing administration and oversight, for a grant from Agog to We Are Anagram Ltd, the UK-based implementing partner. This project supports Health Poverty Action USA's mission of health equity by building public understanding of neurodivergence and the relationship between stigma, support, and wellbeing. During the first quarter of the project overlapping with this reporting period, Anagram developed and tested a room-scale prototype of Impulse Control Room, a 35-minute interactive projection installation adapted from its award-winning mixed-reality experience, Impulse: Playing with Reality. Using movement tracking, wall-and-floor projection, and documentary testimony, the installation explores experiences of ADHD, including impulse, inhibition, diagnosis, shame, and risk. A series of screenings across the USA is planned for 2027. The project builds on a separate, Agog-supported longitudinal evaluation of the original Impulse experience, involving 118 participants with a one-month follow-up: nine in ten reported increased empathy toward people with ADHD, and more than half of participants who suspected they had ADHD reported…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2024, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2024, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2025 to 2026, from $24k to $44k (+84%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
