01What it does

What Harrisburg Medical Center Inc does

Mission

Harrisburg medical center and southern illinois healthcare is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all the people in the communities we serve.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. In support of its mission, the hospital provides care to patients at less than its established charges for patients that meet the hospital's financial assistance criteria. Because the hospital does not pursue collection of amounts determined to qualify for financial assistance, they are not reported in net patient service revenue. Charges excluded from revenue under the hospital's financial assistance policy (fap) were approximately $1,909,000 for fiscal year 2025. In addition, the hospital provides services to other medically indigent patients under certain government-reimbursed public aid programs. Such programs pay providers amounts which are less than established charges for the services provided to the recipients and the payments are less than the cost of rendering care. 2. Harrisburg medical center operates physician practices to provide care and treatment of the medically sick, injured or afflicted on a not-for profit basis. These practices are located in various communities in our service area. Both primary care and specialized medical care are provided including pediatrics, behavioral health, and family medicine. These physician practices provide quality health services throughout southern illinois regardless of race, creed, sex, national origin, handicap, age or ability to pay. These physicians provided uncompensated care through participation in the government sponsored medicare and medicaid programs and the hmc indigent financial assistance program.

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2022: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $114k → $10.

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $190k from 2 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Harrisburg Medical Center Foundation). These are real filings, and they are not money Harrisburg Medical Center Inc raised.

From the IRS filings of Harrisburg Medical Center Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Harrisburg Medical Center Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 76% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Harrisburg Medical Center Inc.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $66 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
