What Grand Encampment Museum Inc does
Mission
Providing historical information to patrons; preserving historical assets for future generations.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
The grand encampment museum has been tasked with the preservation and interpretation of history for wyoming's upper north platte valley. In addition to preserving thousands of historical treasures the museum provides free access to the public to view historical artifacts and to a large library of historical books, magazines, newspapers and photos to conduct research.
$33,827 spent68% of program spendingThe museum provides historical education programs to youth who come to the museum as part of a school field trip or part of a summer camp. Youth are engaged in historical activities and are exposed to historical music, artifacts and lore.
$2,134 spent$400 earned by the program4% of program spendingThe museum strives to provide historical content to the public for free. In 2025 the museum applied for and was granted by the state of wyoming a 25,000 grant to expand its interpretation of the indigenous people who have deep connection to the encampment river valley with new artifacts and exhibit materials. A key part of the new interpretation will be a 7-8- minute interpretive film to highlight the importance of indigenous communities to the area history. The film will explore lifeways of the native people who utilized our area including the northern ute, eastern shoshone, northern arapaho, cheyenne, and lakota tribes. A recently acquired 1847 indian trade gun will be a centerpiece of the new exhibit.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $1.1M to $980k (−12%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2019 14% · 2020 36% · 2021 16% · 2022 42% · 2023 38% · 2024 20% · 2025 21%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 4 funders, grant income rose $20k → $42k.
2 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 5% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of GRAND ENCAMPMENT MUSEUM INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
GRAND ENCAMPMENT MUSEUM INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 52% of grant income and the top three 89%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
62% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GRAND ENCAMPMENT MUSEUM INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 87% · 2019 100% · 2020 96% · 2021 44% · 2022 95% · 2023 69% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
GRAND ENCAMPMENT MUSEUM INC draws 95% of its grant income from funders outside Wyoming, across 4 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $8k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
