Mission

The foundation for fresh produce's vision is to grow a healthier world by changing the trajectory of human health. The produce industry has the potential to provide solutions for many of the world's greatest health and economic challenges - especially those surrounding nutrition and hunger. The foundation will focus on improving the appeal of fruits and vegetables as an integral part of people's diets, supporting the development of infrastructure and supply chain solutions that provide easier access, and establishing strategic alliances that enable children and families to form healthier eating habits.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

Ffp was awarded a usda grant (assisting specialty crop exports, sustainability) to foster the development and adoption of economically and environmentally sustainable packaging for fresh and fresh-cut produce, and value-added products that ensures food safety and quality of the product, extends its shelf-life and does not create additional carbon footprint.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Ffp is dedicated to helping consumers live happier, healthier lives by eating more fruits and vegetables every single day. A website resource (fruitsandveggies.org) provides consumers with nutrition, storage and handling information on a variety of fruits and vegetables along with recipes, research and more (links to social media posts, stories, expert advice).

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 4 funders to 2 funders, grant income fell $33k → $25k.

4 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 30% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $2.1M from 3 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Produce Marketing Association Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money FOUNDATION FOR FRESH PRODUCE BY IFPA INC raised.

From the IRS filings of FOUNDATION FOR FRESH PRODUCE BY IFPA INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FOUNDATION FOR FRESH PRODUCE BY IFPA INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 60% of grant income and the top three 83%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

36% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FOUNDATION FOR FRESH PRODUCE BY IFPA INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $50k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
