01What it does

What Foster Families Navigation & Resource Center Inc does

Mission

Equipping foster, adoptive, and kinship families with essential resources and guidance to navigate the system and thrive.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Foster family support - ffnrc provides essential resources and personalized guidance to foster, kinship, and adoptive families navigating the child welfare system. The program offers access to essentials such as clothing, hygiene and school supplies, baby gear, coats and shoes, as well as training and support, lessening the strain on families as they take in these children. We also house an interim waiting area for our children who have been removed but are awaiting a placement as well as a visitation space where biological parents can host visits with their children who are in care. In 2024 we served 1400 individuals, hosted 36 hours of parenting time, 158 hours of training, and served 9 counties.

  2. Foster care support - ffrnc provides encouragement and supoort to its child welfare workers. This has a direct impact on the retention rate of these workers, which then impacts the rate of permanence for kids in foster care. In 2024 we celebrated almost 200 child welfare workers for national hospitality week. We also hosted 4 on site events for these workers. 2 in saginaw and 1 each in bay and midland.

  3. Community awareness: ffnrc dedicates time to attend community events in the areas we serve to ensure foster adoptive and kinship families know about the support and services we offer. In 2024 we served a total of 9 counties.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $250 → $14k.

4 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 65% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FOSTER FAMILIES NAVIGATION & RESOURCE CENTER INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FOSTER FAMILIES NAVIGATION & RESOURCE CENTER INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 39% of grant income and the top three 70%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

76% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FOSTER FAMILIES NAVIGATION & RESOURCE CENTER INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $233k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
