What Focal Point Corporation does
Mission
To educate the public about folk music through educational programs and concerts.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Focal point produces informal concerts, featuring traditional and contemporary local, regional, and international musicians of the highest caliber. Musicians are chosen for their ability to relate to audiences, to exemplify a certain style, musical origin, or expertise, and to enable our audiences to experience types of music not readily available at commercial venues. Seniors and students can purchase tickets at half price, and those under 12 years of age are free. Focal point also hosts workshops by visiting musicians. These include lessons in various musical instruments, ballad singing, clog dancing, african drumming, repertoire building, and others. For the year ended may 31, 2024, focal point produced/hosted 370 concerts and workshops for 11,500 attendees.
$162,915 spent$129,846 earned by the program89% of program spendingFocal point provides space for amateur musicians, poets, storytellers, and dancers to engage in non-performance activities in focal point's building. Currently, rooms are rented regularly on a weekly or monthly basis to 5 dance groups, a poetry society, two writers' workshops, a monthly jazz band rehearsal/dance/concert, and an independent concert series. Periodically, we also rent to independent musicians who present their own concerts, or to local musicians for private rehearsal space. Some of these groups contribute to building rental, and some do not. All these events are open to the public and encourage universal participation.

Focal point provides teachers in dance, song, and various irish instruments including harp, accordian, guitar, irish bagpipes, and others. There are two concerts and times set aside for social irish dance and informal jam sessions with other musicians.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $92k to $129k (+41%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
34% of FOCAL POINT CORPORATION’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (87% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 2 funders, grant income rose $7k → $20k.
1 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 14% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of FOCAL POINT CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
FOCAL POINT CORPORATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 63% of grant income and the top three 90%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
78% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FOCAL POINT CORPORATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 85% · 2019 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 75% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
89% of FOCAL POINT CORPORATION's grant income comes from Missouri funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $14k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
