What Evangelical Center for Spiritual Wisdom does
Mission
To help disciples of jesus christ become increasingly like him and assist other religious organizations in the achievement of similar purposes.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Program #1 - We continue to see the adoption of our spiritual formation resources for spiritual directors and churches as well as training new leaders for our small group resources. Total Life with God Leaders trained as of the end of the fiscal year is 219. We see exponential growth in contact requests as people are interacting with our resources online. The results are new partnerships with churches both from a top-down approach (leader-led) and a bottom-up approach (grassroots; lay-led). We worked with a marketer to help us think through an awareness plan to expand our reach to churches that are looking for spiritual formation resources. We organized staff to better serve our church partners.
$110,899 spent$8,738 earned by the program49% of program spendingProgram #2 - CSDA is our spiritual directors association. We are seeing strong growth, with 1330 members representing 48 states in the U.S. and 21 additional countries. We have continued our online delivery of professional development to our spiritual directors throughout the year, including opportunities for member soul care called Community Life Events. We were once again able to host our annual in-person gathering in February 2025 for those association members who were able to travel and meet in person. Our annual in-person gatherings are a source of ministry and encouragement for those attending. Due to the nature of spiritual direction, this type of work can have an isolating effect. Our gathering provides a much-needed source of community and relational support for those on the front lines of caring for others. The 2025 Gathering attendance was 95.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $68k to $168k (+147%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
96% of EVANGELICAL CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL WISDOM’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (100% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $65k → $69.
2 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of EVANGELICAL CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL WISDOM’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
EVANGELICAL CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL WISDOM leans on a few funders — its largest provides 100% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund EVANGELICAL CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL WISDOM.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of EVANGELICAL CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL WISDOM's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $182k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
