01What it does

What Epek International Inc does

Mission

To serve the most marginalized communities in Afghanistan to see hope and dignity restored through education, health, and economic empowerment.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

BASIC SKILLS TAINING PROJECT FOR AFGHAN REFUGEES:Epek International is committed to the betterment of the Afghan people within and outside of Afghanistan. The goal of our programs, such as the Basic Training Skills Program is to create a safe community that promotes healthy relationships and good mental health. We teach skills that can create a path to restored dignity, self-sustainability and the becoming of a contributing member of their communities. Skills taught by master trainers are sewing, embroidery, tailoring, basic computer, literacy classes and others as identified by the community.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Food Distribution Project: To help prevent hunger and food insecurity, EPEK International provided essential food and nutritional support to more than 35,000 refugee and internally displaced families across Afghanistan. For families facing the difficult realities of displacement and conflict, these food packages provided much needed relief and helped them get through some of the hardest circumstances. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside these families and offer practical help when they needed it most.

  2. Clean Drinking Water Project: EPEK International is committed to helping refugee and internally displaced children have access to education and a brighter future. Through our education programs, we provide children with opportunities to learn, grow, and develop the skills they need for their future. For many refugee families, education can feel out of reach because of displacement, financial hardship, and difficult living conditions. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive learning environment where children can continue their education, regain confidence, and have hope for a better future. We are thankful for the opportunity to walk alongside these children and their families, helping restore hope and dignity through education.

  3. Medical Assistance Project: Throughout 2025, EPEK International provided medical care and support to more than 59,000 people living in refugee and internally displaced communities. Our medical teams offered daily check-ups, essential medicines, and ongoing care through mobile medical units and on-site clinics. Our team worked tirelessly to reach families who often have very limited access to healthcare. For many of these individuals, this support meant receiving the care and medicine they needed at a time when they had nowhere else to turn. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve these communities and help bring hope, healing, and dignity to those facing difficult circumstances.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $7k → $6k.

2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 37% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of EPEK INTERNATIONAL INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

EPEK INTERNATIONAL INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 44% of grant income and the top three 81%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

55% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund EPEK INTERNATIONAL INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $13k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
