What Emergent Works Inc does
Mission
Emergent Works Inc. (ew) is bridging the gap between tech-forward careers and historically underserved communities impacted by mass incarceration by offering free access to technology, skills-based training, employment opportunities, and the resources needed to achieve high-paying tech-forward careers. In addition to our technical education programs, ew is also committed to creating tech solutions that serve organizations working to end mass incarceration.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Program
On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.
The leap fellowship concluded following the successful completion of the community justice exchange bail fund app project. The program was paused in 2024 due to limited funding and internal team capacity, as emergent works shifted focus to sustaining its core t.rap program. While the leap model demonstrated strong participant outcomes, future iterations will depend on renewed funding and staffing resources to ensure high-quality implementation.
Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).
Emergent works' year-long t.rap (technology, rhythm, and passion) program equips justice-impacted youth and adults with digital, creative, and career development skills to achieve sustainable employment and economic stability. The program operates through two six-month learning cohorts followed by six months of alumni engagement and mentorship.t.rap serves both youth (ages 1624) and adults (25+), providing an integrated model that combines technical education, creative expression, professional readiness, and social-emotional learning. Participants complete project-based digital literacy training, build websites and professional portfolios, engage in mentorship and wellness sessions, and attend career readiness workshops.for youth, the program blends music production and digital storytelling, helping participants create an original album and build personal brands to market their work. Adult participants focus on website development, design fundamentals, and digital tools to enhance employability and entrepreneurship. Both tracks culminate in professional showcases, certifications, and continued alumni support focused on job placement, income growth, and leadership…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $433k to $54k (−87%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
89% of EMERGENT WORKS INC’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (91% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2022 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 5 funders, grant income rose $265k → $2.4M.
4 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 46% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of EMERGENT WORKS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
EMERGENT WORKS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 45% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
94% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund EMERGENT WORKS INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2022 100% · 2023 53% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
93% of EMERGENT WORKS INC's grant income comes from New York funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.3M arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
