01What it does

What Ecologic Institute does

Mission

The conduct and promotion of independent research in the areas of nature conservation and environmental protection, ecologically sustainable resource management, and environmentally friendly economic and social development.

As stated on its FY2018 Form 990.

Program

Urban Sustainability - The Urban Sustainability program at Ecologic Institute works with urban communities across the globe, leveraging the dynamism and diversity of urban spaces to develop sustainable solutions to issues impacting the environmental, economic, and social future of the world's cities. Collaborating with stakeholders, government representatives, community organizations, academic institutions, businesses, potential investors, and local residents, POCACITO (Post-Carbon Cities of Tomorrow) creates a space to exchange the most innovative and evocative sustainability initiatives from cities in Europe, Asia, and the US, as well as provide support and inspiration for grassroots efforts to build community participation in local urban sustainability efforts. In 2018, POCACITO went to Berlin, Dresden and Hannover in Germany.

The first program described on its most recent Form 990, which lists programs largest first by expense.

Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ECOLOGIC INSTITUTE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of ECOLOGIC INSTITUTE's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $81 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
