01What it does

What Crossroads of the American Revolution Association Inc does

Mission

From the heights of the palisades at fort lee to the shores of the delaware river at red bank battlefield, the crossroads of the american revolution national heritage area offers an unprecedented opportunity to explore the impact of the american revolution.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Crossroads presented two workshops for heritage partners. In march, the workshop was held at morristown national historical park co-sponsored by the morris county tourism bureau. The workshop covered ways to incorporate interpretive themes, volunteer recruitment, and visitor readiness requirements into historic site programming. The workshop also featured a speed consulting session with professionals in the field. In october, a workshop was held to assist historic sites to understand dress in new jersey and the mid-atlantic region during the revolution, and to help them select and prepare period-appropriate reproduction clothing for their staff and volunteers. Three experts in the field presented. The workshop was held at the historic trenton masonic temple.

  2. Crossroads continued to participate in revolutionnj, a partnership between it and the nj historical commission, to plan the state's official commemorative activities for the nation's 250th anniversary. As the nonprofit partner, crossroads' staff worked to create and maintain the website, social media accounts, and media/marketing for the initiative, and develop numerous programs including four (4) 5k races at historic sites and parks significant to new jersey's revolutionary history.

  3. After many years renting office space in a 1759 national historic landmark site, crossroads moved its offices to a recently updated building. Staff effected most of the move themselves. This represented both a major upheaval in operations and a relief to move into a space with reliable hvac, internet connectivity, and better overall amenities.

  4. Other program services, not described on the e-filed return.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $5k → $20.

2 of 15 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 18% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CROSSROADS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ASSOCIATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CROSSROADS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ASSOCIATION INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 25% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

68% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CROSSROADS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ASSOCIATION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

22% of CROSSROADS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ASSOCIATION INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 27% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $18k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
