Mission

Cush is an interfaith coalition actively living our faith and values in the pursuit of justice through advocacy, education and empowerment.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Our immigration task force helped create safety and preparedness for the kenosha community in the face of rising authoritarianism and brutality. Forty unique individuals participated in one or more task force meetings. In partnership with voces de la frontera, cush trained 22 "verifiers," who serve as legal observers and on-the-ground reporters during instances where law enforcement is operating without identification. An additional five individuals received further training. Through this same partnership, we distributed approximately 100 flyers with basic "know-your-rights" information, detailing the protections afforded under the 1st and 4th amendments to the us constitution. The cush immigration task force also engaged in advocacy throughout the fall of 2025, communicating with the kenosha county sheriff to advocate against kenosha county's participation in a 287(g) agreement and advocating for increased transparency on policies related to law enforcement treatment, on the part of the kenosha unified school district.

Approximately one dozen individuals participated in this task force's meetings. The cush environmental justice task force has hosted a number of educational workshops in relation to this effort. Between five and ten unique individuals participated in workshops on urban tree selection + planting.

The cush rainbow forward task force developed a relationship with a cush member-congregation to create a plan for a volunteer led youth program, designed to fill the gaps created by the sudden closure of the lgbtq center of southeast wisconsin. Fifteen unique individuals participated in meetings throughout the year. The rainbow forward task force also held multiple demonstrations to raise awareness on the attacks and legislative setbacks suffered by the lgbtq community nationally throughout 2025. More than 19 unique individuals attended the 2025 transgender day of remembrance celebration (honoring the lives lost to anti-transgender violence). More than a dozen individuals participated in a stonewall anniversary celebration. An additional 10 individuals participated in a silent protest to raise awareness of lgbtq people, and another dozen participated in a workshop exploring the intersectionality of those queer individuals living with disability. 2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 5% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CONGREGATIONS UNITED TO SERVE HUMANITY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CONGREGATIONS UNITED TO SERVE HUMANITY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 67% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

92% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CONGREGATIONS UNITED TO SERVE HUMANITY INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $6k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
