01What it does

What Community Healing Network Inc does

Mission

Our mission is to mobilize black people across the african diaspora to heal from the trauma caused by centuries of anti black racism, to free ourselves of toxic stereotypes, and to reclaim our dignity and humanity as people of african ancestry.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Healing circles programming and training- the "virtual emotional emancipation (ee) circle 101 intensive experience", piloted by chn in fy21 as the first in a series of virtual chn circles focused on helping participants heal from the multi-generational trauma caused by the lie of white superiority and black inferiority. This foundational ee circle experience launches participants on a journey toward complete freedom from the lie. Participants emerged with personal emotional emancipation proclamations and concrete action plans for freeing themselves from the lie. Survey results show that participants emerged with a sense that their mis-education about history has been corrected, a deepened understanding of the impact of the lie on their lives, increased feelings of self-empowerment, and a commitment to continuing on the journey toward emotional emancipation. "chn hosted eecs and eec facilitator sessions at common grounds (rochester institute) for 24 people; chn launched 1st annual soul sovereignty series utilizing guest speakers and panel discussion (fundraising); a new ubuntu healing circle for frontline workers in social justice, called humanity for healers, was successfully…

  2. Community engagement | sawubona listening tour: community healing network (chn) completed an 11-week sawubona listening tour throughout greater new haven (gnh). Sawubona is a zulu greeting that means 'I see you"" on a deep level. In the spirit of sawubona, we connected deeply with members of global africa, friends, and supporters residing in ct. It was essential to hear from our community, so our programming can be more effective. Our three goals were: 1. Re-introduce chn to residents of gnh; 2. Identify key areas of need in relation to emotional emancipation within black communities; and3. Begin building relationships with key institutions to partner in the global movement for emotional emancipation and community healing. We engaged 100 people accross the religious, educational, and business sectors.

  3. Chn events community healing days celebration & awards ceremony, october 18-20, 2024 | this annual celebration offers a time of rest and taking a break to heal for people of african descent and to celebrate community leaders who are serving local black communities with programs aimed at mental and emtional healing. Africa day celebration "healing as a pathway to power," may 25, 2025: chn held a global celebration for people of african descent as part of the annual international celebration, africa day. Feature speakers included black leaders and psychologists within and beyond the us. The celebration theme: healing as a pathway to power. 58 people were in attendance.

The 3 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990, listed largest first by expense. Program spending in total: $87,168.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income held at $75k.

3 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 11% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of COMMUNITY HEALING NETWORK INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

COMMUNITY HEALING NETWORK INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 50% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 2 funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $141k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. These figures are read directly from IRS Form 990 / 990-PF e-file XML: this organization’s own return for FY2025 (financials across 2021–2025), and the filings of 6 funders that report grants to it. “On record” means captured in the filings we have parsed — a funder that does not e-file, or whose grant detail is not itemized, will not appear.
