What Community Empowerment Nfp does

Mission

The organization works with local leadership in underserved communities, primarily in haiti and dominican republic, to provide essential health care, while creating a self-sustaining system.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. This year 22 teams worked in the dominican republic - 8 primary care teams, 8 surgical teams, 2 audiology, and 2 non-medical teams. These teams included 214 volunteers. However, the situation in haiti remained too unstable with a high level of danger so no teams worked in haiti. Our staff of 5 started working in a new clinic located in delmas 103 in june 2025. However, community empowerment assisted in providing essential healthcare by being involved in 3,701 medical visits in the dominican republic; 380 procedures were completed; and 436 audiology visits were performed. Physical medicine and rehabilitation providers accompanied an orthopedic team and saw 289 patients. The clinic in villa verde was transferred to the ministry of health in the dr who took on financial and medical responsibilities. Community empowerment continued working with the new community of duquesa which sits on the largest garbage dump in santo domingo and is made up primarily of haitian refugees. In august 2025 community empowerment started working with a new community, oregano grande which is 2 hours northwest of santo domingo and will have teams there every 3 - 4 months. This year, community empowerment…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $11k → $54k.

7 of 15 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 62% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT NFP’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT NFP has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 29% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

82% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT NFP.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

57% of COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT NFP's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 67% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

62% of COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT NFP's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $111k that is directly attributable, 96% of it comes from Illinois funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $184k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
