01What it does

What Colorado Youth at Risk Inc does

Mission

Colorado youth at risk empowers teenage students to make life choices that positively impact their future through community-based mentoring and intensive training. Colorado youth at risk aims to reduce the number of high school dropouts, match students with an adult mentor and provide students with a sense of the future and their place in that future. On september 18, 2017, colorado youth at risk entered into a "donation agreement" with denver urban scholars (dus), a colorado 501c3 organization, effectively transferring all remaining organization net assets to dus. Articles of dissolution were filed with the colorado secretary of state on january 25, 2018 formally disolving the organization.

As stated on its FY2017 Form 990.

Program

Provided curriculum for approximately 100 youth on how to handle themselves in difficult situations. Each youth is paired with a mentor who works with that individual for the following 12 month period, meeting weekly. Once a month, the group attends a workshop lasting 3 to 4 hours

The first program described on its most recent Form 990, which lists programs largest first by expense.

2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 15% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is

COLORADO YOUTH AT RISK INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 70% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund COLORADO YOUTH AT RISK INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $16k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
