01What it does

What Classically Connected Inc does

Mission

Classically connected, inc. Cci, formerly known as si-yo music society foundation, inc., is a not-for-profit that aims to connect a global community with classical music by conserving, loaning, and promoting education about instruments.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

CCI began a successful collaboration with two residential condominium owners in NYC, one at 635 West 42nd Street and the other at 611 West 56th Street. Both are easily accessible for artists and audiences alike, within easy walking distance from bus and subway transit, as well as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. World-renowned artists, as well as high-level students and young artists from major conservatories worldwide, have been featured, offering valuable opportunities for artists to explore new collaborations and perform before live audiences in preparation for notable performances, auditions, and competitions.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

Due to emerging institutional risks stemming from rising geopolitical tensions, CCI modified its primary efforts to promote and present to general audiences its network of musical artists by leveraging volunteer efforts and focusing instead on providing them with instruments, introducing them to prospective sponsors, and offering private performance and discussion opportunities for small gatherings among themselves and their friends.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. The asset management and lending program managed 21 loans of instruments to artists in FY 2024-2025. All instruments were reported by the artists to be in good condition using written reports and photos every 3 months.

    $38,015 spent
    53% of program spending
  2. The findmyinstrument.org registry, launched in November 2022. Registered 250 instruments as of June 2024. CCi-managed instruments with fmi registration numbers received a 75 discount on insurance premiums.

    $33,782 spent
    47% of program spending

The 2 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990, listed largest first by expense. Program spending in total: $71,797.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $1k → $30k.

4 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 85% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CLASSICALLY CONNECTED INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CLASSICALLY CONNECTED INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 52% of grant income and the top three 96%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

85% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CLASSICALLY CONNECTED INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

85% of CLASSICALLY CONNECTED INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $26k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside New York, across 1 state.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $147k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
