What Bridging Insights Inc does
Mission
Conducts academic research and education in the area of conflict resolution, specifically a comparative, interdisciplinary study of political conflicts between 1946 and 2018 that are considered resolved. Bi's research focuses on solved conflicts based on the rationale that learning from success stories can inspire new, practical approaches, applicable to otherwise seemingly hopeless situations around the world. This project defines solved as cases that were resolved with a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement and have not had violence resurface. The study will include significant analysis of the drivers of each conflict and the ways it was resolved, then move on to comparative analysis. Bi seeks to build a research-based model for conflict resolution that can apply globally to ongoing conflicts. Specifically, through this research-based model, bi aims to educate and enable new ideas, paradigms, and methods of engagement applicable to practitioners in diverse conflicted areas.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Program
Bridging insights has successfully completed our initial research and it has been published in a special edition of the negotiation journal, published by mit press in conjunction with the harvard law school's program on negotiation. Entitled why it worked, the research details interdisciplinary research done by five leading universities, examining the learnings from conflicts which have been resolved in the past. The kennedy school at harvard has also used this research in teaching a seminar at the school.

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 51% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of BRIDGING INSIGHTS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
BRIDGING INSIGHTS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 44% of grant income and the top three 83%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
51% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BRIDGING INSIGHTS INC.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
51% of BRIDGING INSIGHTS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $50k that is directly attributable, 80% of it comes from New York funders.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $53k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
