What ATHFEST INC dba ATHFEST EDUCATES does
Mission
Athfest educates advances high-quality music and arts education for local youth and the athens community through direct support and community-based programs and events, including an annual music and arts festival
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Athfest educates produces the annual athfest music and arts festival. Athfest showcases local, regional and national talent to athens residents and residents of surrounding communities and states. Over the past 25 years the festival has gained a dedicated fan base and we see festival goers from all over georgia and the southeast. The athens convention and visitors bureau estimates that approximately 60,000 people attend athfest annually. The festival gives more than 120 musicians an opportunity to perform live and get their music out to thousands of fans they may not have reached otherwise. Less than 10% of the bands who apply to perform at athfest are accpeted to perform on the main and second stages. In addition, nearly 60 local and regional artists showcase their art in the athfest artists market. This artist market is a juried artist market and athfest takes pride in selecting high-quality artist to participate.

These grants enable young people to attend live, professional musical and artisitic performances and installations, participate in hands-on music and arts programs, and increase their access to, and use of, professional music and arts equipment. In addition, athfest educates proudly awards grants to permit educators and youth development specialties to attend professional development opportunities.
$100,138 spentof which $61,663 as grants26% of program spendingThe ultimate mission of athfest educates is to advance music and arts education for the young people of athens. One way we achieve this goal is through the kidsfest component of the athfest music and arts festival. Kidsfest is a three-day celebration that showcases kid-friendly bands and gives youth an opportunity to participate in free arts-based activities appoximately 3,000 youth attend kidfest each year. Kidsfest prides itself on giving up-and-coming middle school and high school-aged musicians the stage and a chance to perform live in front of athfest festival-goers. We believe this exposure, be it for band members or their young fans, is building the basis for music appreciation and encouraging all youth to get excited about playing music. Kidsfest is free and is a draw for many of our area's low-income residents which is particularly valuable to our mission since low-income communities often do not have the financial resources needed to attend live musical performances.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $500 → $3k.
3 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 78% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of ATHFEST INC dba ATHFEST EDUCATES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
ATHFEST INC dba ATHFEST EDUCATES leans on a few funders — its largest provides 59% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
78% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ATHFEST INC dba ATHFEST EDUCATES.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 99% · 2022 79% · 2023 98% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
78% of ATHFEST INC dba ATHFEST EDUCATES's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $6k that is directly attributable, 83% of it comes from funders outside Georgia, across 3 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $22k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
