01What it does

What Artisans4hope does

Mission

The main exempt purpose of Artisans4Hope is to offer complimentary textile art language and sewing classes to refugees in Boise Idaho. We teach artisans to craft handmade items such as clothing blankets bags and accessories aiding them in sales. Artisans earn a 60% commission. We have a modestly compensated Executive Director and one refugee overseeing quality control. A paid volunteer maintains sewing machines and oversees alterations. An attendant manages the sales shop and other duties.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Teaching the refugees to make quality items that can be sold while also teaching and helping them with English. We currently help around 40 or so refugees through the year but this number varies. We have a sales shop where the items can be sold. The expenses here go towards materials and commissions paid to the artisans refugees.

  2. Involving the artisans refugees in public sales events conventions and other opportunities to integrate into our culture better. The number of refugees involved here is maybe around half at best as it up to them to commit. We encourage them to help with sales opportunities as they can. Expenses are generally marketing and advertising events

  3. Clothing alterations - a fairly new part of A4H providing opportunities to learn and make commissions on repairing clothing and other items. Around a half dozen refugees are currently helping learning and profiting from this program. Expenses are mostly commissions paid to the artisans refugees.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $3k → $11k.

4 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 74% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ARTISANS4HOPE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ARTISANS4HOPE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 33% of grant income and the top three 73%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

78% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ARTISANS4HOPE.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

25% of ARTISANS4HOPE's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 33% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

74% of ARTISANS4HOPE's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $13k that is directly attributable, 61% of it comes from Idaho funders.

Idaho out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $36k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
