01What it does

Mission

Independent multimedia organization dedicated to exploring every aspect of china's engagement with africa.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Independent multimedia research organization dedicated to exploring every aspect of china's engagement in africa and across the developing world.

  2. Amplifying southeast asian voices in the global discourse about development and sustainability - southeast asia contributes just 6% of the world's carbon emissions, yet it is the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. The devastating impacts of floods and droughts across the continent have significantly threatened food security and social stability. Southeast asian voices and solutions to climate change mitigation and adaptation are largely absent owing to systemic causes and market pressures, with global north narratives on climate change taking precedence in southeast asia's media ecosystem. The partnership between rbf and cgsp aims to remedy this problem by centering local voices, local experts, and local solutions in the discourse about sustainability and development that are now vitally important in southeast asia.

  3. Amplifying iplc voices in the nickel mining discourse in indonesia - with almost 60% of the world's nickel reserves, indonesia is at the center of the global competition for critical minerals. While all that nickel will help usher in a new era of cleaner energy and transportation, out of sight, millions of people are bearing an enormous cost to make this transition possible. Nickel extraction is a violent process that exacts massive costs on the environment and the millions of people who live near the mines. While there is growing awareness of the ecological and health damage wrought by critical resource mining, key voices are too often missing from the discourse. Mining companies, the government, and even automakers have been very effective in shaping the narratives, particularly in the news media, around nickel mining in indonesia. Rarely, though, do the perspectives of people who live closest to the mines receive meaningful coverage. This initiative aims to change.

Who funds it, year by year

2022 → 2023: the base held at 2 funders, grant income rose $250k → $255k.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 8% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $100k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
