  2. The helping hand program covers the cost of animal veterinary care services for select animals on a case by case basis. The cost of travel, shipping, or airfare to transport an animal from the village to veterinary facilities is not covered, but must be arranged prior to final approval for the care. Helping hand also distributes leashes, collars, dog food, and pet supplies. In certain situations, helping hand assists in finding a home if a dog would otherwise be destroyed. During 2023, helping hand distributed available supplies with each rural village clinic held, helped adopt multiple pets to permanent homes, and assisted with dogs flying in from rural alaskan villages to veterinary facilities for necessary medical care. Helping hand also provided multiple dog houses in 2023.
