01What it does

What A Better Society does

Mission

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in 2008 with the goal of strengthening communities by using a unique approach. We take new social ideas, incubate them, and scale them into sustainable projects.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. A Better Society (abs) continued its leadership in delivering high-impact projects that strengthen and connect our community. Project life-cycle, abs's first initiative launched in 2008, remains one of our most meaningful efforts. In 2024, the program provided over 540 bikes to individuals in need. Volunteers played a key role by repairing and restoring bikes donated by community members, ensuring access to basic transportation for many throughout the county. Through our mobile bike repair clinics, abs offered free repairs at seven community events, helping fix 262 bikes and keeping residents safely on the move. Abs also hosted three fix-it clinics, where volunteers helped community members repair household items-reducing waste and promoting sustainability. In partnership with carver county, abs took a leadership role in developing the carver county family resource center (frc). This multi-year collaboration brings together organizations and agencies to provide essential services and support for families. Located in chaska, the frc serves as a welcoming hub where families and caregivers can access trusted resources and build meaningful connections that help them thrive.

Each line starts at 100 in 2022, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2022, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of A BETTER SOCIETY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of A BETTER SOCIETY's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $85 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
