Itemized grant
A single grant listed by name on a filing, as opposed to a total.
An itemized grant is one line on a return naming a recipient and an amount. A private foundation lists every grant it paid on Form 990-PF Part XV, so its itemized lines add up to its distribution.
A public charity filing Form 990 reports grants on Schedule I, which only requires listing recipients that received $5,000 or more. Adding up those lines therefore understates what the organization actually granted, which is why a total taken from the financials is the more reliable headline for a 990 filer.
