What Zane Greys West Society does
Mission
The purpose of Zane Grey's West Society is to promote interest in and knowledge of the eminent American author, Zane Grey and his works; to revive interest in the writings of Zane Grey and preserve the sites of his writings so that future generations may realize the contributions made by Zane Grey toward the development of the adventure story in American literature.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Program
ZGWS publishes a quarterly journal that provides insights into the life and times of Zane Grey. We have digitized our journal publications and are working towards having them available to all interested parties. ZGWS is in the process of archiving many of the documents that we have in regards to Zane Grey and his writings. We are working with BYU to identify a large amount of Zane Grey photos to document his life and add to their Library for use in education of Zane Grey's life and contributions to the literary community. ZGWS supports 3 museums that are dedicated to the memory of noted author, Zane Grey. These museums are: 1. The Zane Grey Museum - in Lackawaxen, PA 2. The National Rd/Zane Grey Museum in Norwich, OH 3. The Zane Grey Cabin located in Payson, AZ.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $269k to $317k (+18%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 3 of the last 4 reported years ran a deficit.

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $94 → $65.
1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of ZANE GREYS WEST SOCIETY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of ZANE GREYS WEST SOCIETY's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $323 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
