01What it does

What Working Villages International does

Mission

Our mission is to get rural people out of poverty. We do this by investing in agricultural interventions that substantially raise farmers' incomes.

As stated on its FY2017 Form 990.

Program

WVI addresses the root causes of hunger and unemployment using a scalable development model based on self-sustaining, ecologically sound methods of agriculture. By far the most impactful intervention WVI has accomplished is the building of large irrigation systems in eastern Congo. Key to accomplishing agricultural success is the use of ox based agriculture to increase the production of individual farmers. During 2018 and after, WVI plans, using models developed in its eastern Congo projects, a new focus elsewhere in the world to develop ethical and sustainable human-bovine ecologies.

The first program described on its most recent Form 990, which lists programs largest first by expense.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of WORKING VILLAGES INTERNATIONAL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of WORKING VILLAGES INTERNATIONAL's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $5k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
