01What it does

What W20 Foundation does

Mission

W20 Foundation empowers youth to become community leaders through service, enrichment, and recognition. Its three core progroms include: teamup4community, a digital-service learning platform for student-athletes; a scholarship program rewarding youth for exellence in academics, leadership, and service; and fuel the movement, a storytelling and engagement initiative that promotes civic action across generations.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

While the core services provided by the organization have remained consistent from 2023 to 2024, the W20 Foundation undertook an internal program restructuring for 2024 activities for improved financial tracking, outcome measurement, and program clarity. Activities that were previously grouped under the TeamUp4Community (TU4C) program have now been formally delineated into three distinct programs: TeamUp4Community, which continues to focus on youth-led service learning and digital impact tracking; the Scholarship Program, which recognizes student-athletes with merit-based scholarships tied to civic leadership and service; and Fuel the Movement, which promotes public engagement through storytelling, speaking engagements, and digital outreach. These two new programsthe Scholarship Program and Fuel the Movement are newly reported as separate program lines on the Form 990 beginning in 2024. However, they do not reflect the addition of entirely new services. Rather, they are primarily a reclassification of existing activities previously embedded within the broader TU4C initiative. This structural update was implemented to better align the organizations accounting and program reporting with actual outcomes, impact areas, and future funding streams.Fuel the Movement was launched in 2024 as a formal engagement program of the W20 Foundation. It includes the organizations annual Golf Outing, public speaking appearances, a soon-to-be-launched digital podcast platform, and issue-based…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $16k → $4k.

1 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 8% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of W20 FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

W20 FOUNDATION has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 23% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

35% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund W20 FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

17% of W20 FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 33% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $6k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
