Mission

Our mission is to develop and empower our students as leaders, globally competitive scholars and informed citizens.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Planning and development for a new k2 school - building on our commitment to early literacy and equitable education, we have begun formal planning efforts to launch a new k2 school in anderson, targeted for opening in fall 2026. This initiative represents a major step toward creating a comprehensive early learning ecosystem that supports children from their first school experiences through foundational literacy milestones. Our planning includes community input sessions, facility exploration, and collaboration with local educators and leaders to ensure that the school's design reflects the unique strengths and needs of anderson families.

  2. Launch of the hive tutoring program - in response to the need for stronger literacy foundations among early learners, we successfully launched the hive, a tutoring program designed to support students in grades 23 in anderson, indiana. The program provides targeted literacy intervention focused on reading fluency, comprehension, and foundational skills. Through small-group and one-on-one tutoring, the hive has engaged students in meaningful learning experiences that build confidence and close skill gaps.

  3. Increased community engagement and visibility - we actively participated in several community events across the city of anderson to strengthen relationships with families and local partners while increasing awareness of our educational initiatives. These events provided valuable opportunities to meet community members, share information about our programs, and listen to local needs. Our growing presence at city events has helped position us as a trusted and visible partner in the effort to improve educational outcomes in anderson.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2022: the base held at 3 funders, grant income fell $550k → $110k.

1 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of URBAN ACT ACADEMY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 7 of 8 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

URBAN ACT ACADEMY INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 51% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

68% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund URBAN ACT ACADEMY INC.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 82% · 2019 100% · 2020 56% · 2021 75% · 2022 66% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $25k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
