What Unity Recovery Services Inc does

Mission

To create opportunities for individuals in or seeking recovery from addiction.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

Taxpayer ceased the greater shawano area recovery initiative in 2023 when the sober living residence was transferred to a non-profit located in the area.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. Unity recovery works in the fond du lac county jail with men and women that present with drug or/and alcohol related issues. Unity offers peer support and post-incarceration planning, as well as continued support post- incarceration. Unity also operates a peer recovery center in oconto county, offering a safe location for individuals to receive one on one peer support, recovery meetings and a connection to the community. We provide staff on coalitions addressing drug and alcohol use in various counties through this program.

  3. Unity moved to a larger location in order to serve individuals with a broader range of services. This includes monthly educational programs and a computer bank allowing individuals to look for employment opportunities, complete applications and to look for housing or other resources necessary to their recovery. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $10 → $41k.

5 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 82% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of UNITY RECOVERY SERVICES INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 8 of 9 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

UNITY RECOVERY SERVICES INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 57% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

90% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund UNITY RECOVERY SERVICES INC.

How long its funders stay

60% of UNITY RECOVERY SERVICES INC's funders are still giving 1 year after their first grant; 56% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

82% of UNITY RECOVERY SERVICES INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $116k that is directly attributable, 52% of it comes from funders outside Wisconsin, across 2 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $528k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
