01What it does

What Tulane-Canal Neighborhood Developme does

Mission

Tulane/canal neighborhood development corporation (tcndc) is a non-profit organization that seeks to maintain the diversity and vibrancy of the tulane canal neighborhood through affordable home ownership and community development. In recognition of institutional racism and poverty, tcndc envisions a neighborhood where all residents have access to stable, affordable housing thereby building a more equiable community.

As stated on its FY2022 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2023 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

As of january 12, 2023, the organization merged into peoples housing+ inc, ein 47-3700373, another exempt 501(c)(3) organization, thus ceasing all of its program services as a stand alone organization.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. The tulane/canal neighborhood development corporation works with families and individuals who make 80% of the area median income and below. Tcndc has three main programs: developing single family homes for low income first-time homebuyers, one-on-one financial literacy and homebuyer counseling, and homeowner occupied repairs for elderly homeowners.

The program described on its FY2023 Form 990.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $26k → $4k.

1 of 4 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 14% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of TULANE-CANAL NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPME’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

TULANE-CANAL NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPME leans on a few funders — its largest provides 84% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

97% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund TULANE-CANAL NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPME.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $26k arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
