01What it does

What Stronger Than Stigma Inc does

Mission

Stronger Than Stigma's (STS) mission is to educate, empower, inspire and support those struggling with mental health issues. Designed to be a "for us, by us, social movement, STS works to break down the barriers that keep people from reaching out for help and to eliminate the stigma around doing so. STS focuses on creating meaningful experiences - in person and online - to bring people together and prove that no one is alone in their struggle. Dedicated to Next Gen mental health advocacy, STS believes that the millennial generation will be the force behind this needed social change and it is leading the way, one experience at a time. STS' ultimate goal is to change public perception around mental health and reaching out for help. STS is trying to make caring for one's mental health more of a social experience, and if nothing else, a less isolating one.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Stronger Than Stigma (STS) celebrated the milestone of reaching 10 years in operation and worked behind the scenes to strengthen our foundation for the next decade. While focusing on extensive strategic planning for the future, we also were able to be forward-facing for our community.

  2. "Concert + Conversation": For Mental Health Awareness Month 2023, we hosted our second installment of this successful fundraising program we created and organized in 2021. Concert + Conversation spotlights local musicians willing to share how their mental health journeys have informed their creative processes. Via performance and panel discussion, STS creates dialogue between the artists and the audience. Our supporters filled the venue to capacity, creating a community of about 100 fellow listeners. This time, we partnered with local millennial-owned businesses; the event was hosted at Blue Jay Listening Room in partnership with Bold City Circuit.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $1k → $6k.

3 of 10 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 84% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Stronger Than Stigma Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Stronger Than Stigma Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 81% of grant income and the top three 93%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

84% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Stronger Than Stigma Inc.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

60% of Stronger Than Stigma Inc's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 70% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

84% of Stronger Than Stigma Inc's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $36k that is directly attributable, 89% of it comes from Florida funders.
