01What it does

What Strides in Recovery Inc does

Mission

Strides in Recovery is a Southern California nonprofit which helps newly sober individuals grow physically, emotionally and mentally stronger so they can do their best at the hard work of recovery. We achieve these results by coaching people in addiction treatment programs to complete 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. Led weekly goal-oriented group running/walking programs for approximately 1300 clients in various Los Angeles area addiction treatment programs. Many of these participants completed public events ranging in distance from 5Ks to the Los Angeles Marathon, as well as fun runs hosted by Strides in Recovery. Participants reported benefits including increased self-confidence and self-esteem; an opportunity to practice life skills such as perseverance, goal-setting, and overcoming obstacles; an enhanced sense of belonging and self-worth by being part of a team; and gaining a strategy (regular exercise) for alleviating common relapse triggers such as stress, depression and anxiety. These sessions are the source of our program revenue.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $166 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
