What Southeast Regional Cooperative Inc does
Mission
To facilitate donations of produce and purchases at the lowest possible cost and to provide a consistent level of demand to growers, distributors, and other supply chain participants.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Program
The southeast regional cooperative (serc) is a 501(c)3, type I supporting organization of the feeding america food banks in 7 southeastern states. It seeks to provide fresh produce to food banks in the southeast region, focusing on quantity, quality, and variety. The serc is designed to aggregate produce demand from food banks throughout the southeast and match that demand with surplus produce from the southeast states and across the country. The serc seeks to reduce the cost of acquisition for fresh produce by building donor relationships and lowering logistics costs, thereby increasing fresh donated produce for our supported member food banks. The serc negotiates and procures excess donated produce and freight costs for participating food banks. The serc manages a contracted mixing facility where it aggregates straight commodity truckloads and cross-dock the produce to create mixed commodity truckloads. The serc then distributes these mixed produce truckloads to the supported food banks.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2018, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2018, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $670k to $1.9M (+178%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
7% of SOUTHEAST REGIONAL COOPERATIVE INC’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (96% for the typical peer).
