01What it does

What Smokefree SC does

Mission

The mission of Smokefree SC is to support and amplify the work of tobacco prevention and control stakeholders throughout South Carolina.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The organizations efforts are focused on reducing the harm caused by the use of commercial tobacco and commercial tobacco-related products on the citizens of sc. These efforts include providing education, training and technical assistance to the general public, partners and grantees by sponsoring an annual summit, conducting webinars, hosting a website for resources, and providing pass-through grant funding for commercial tobacco and commercial tobacco-related product policy and point-of-sale (pos) research throughout the state. Through our pos statewide project, in-store assessments on tobacco products for sale, price points and marketing techniques were conducted in all 46 counties in sc. Tobacco retailer data was collected to assess how many existed by zip codes and proximity to schools and parks. These assessments allow local coalitions and community groups to formulate policy solutions, raise community awareness and engage decision makers in implementing and enforcing local statutes on tobacco use and sales.

1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Smokefree SC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

100% of Smokefree SC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $16 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
