What Shepherd Household Inc does
Mission
Religious boarding school for troubled boys who are unable to function in regular schools and alternative schools of the regular public school system.
As stated on its FY2023 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Our school provides a residential program for boys who have been unable to function in regular or alternative public school settings. Our school has provided room and board as well as educational instruction for 2 students during 2023. Our school is offered free of charge to the students and their families. Many of our students are functioning well below grade level when admitted mostly because of behavioral issues or family issues. We create an individualized educational plan for each student which allows them to catch up to their proper grade level. Our students composition for 2023 was 1 student of unknown ethnicity, and 1 student from Belize. We provide all of the students educational opportunities which allow them to participate in religious and secular extra-curricular activities. (2 students.)
$98,513 spent98% of program spendingOur school also provides our students many vocational educational opportunities. They have explored agricultural activities such as farming and gardening. The students were able to work with all kinds of farm animals such as horses, cows, pigs, chickens, goats, and dogs. They were able to have a vegetable garden, flower garden, and work with fruit trees. We also provided the students with an automotive program where the students took out a transmission and motor. The boys learned to rebuild the motor and were actually able to reassemble the vehicle and make it run. They also learned basic automotive skills such as changing tires, changing oil and filters, replacing headlights, etc. In addition to this, the students also learned many construction skills such as framing, sheetrock, roofing, block and brick laying, etc. (2 students.)

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $11k to $0 (−100%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 3 of the last 7 reported years ran a deficit.
Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income rose $63 → $108.
1 of 2 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 29% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of SHEPHERD HOUSEHOLD INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
SHEPHERD HOUSEHOLD INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 71% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
29% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SHEPHERD HOUSEHOLD INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 100% · 2021 82% · 2022 79% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
SHEPHERD HOUSEHOLD INC draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside North Carolina, across 1 state in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $412 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
