01What it does

What Sea Coast Area Feline Education & Rescue Inc does

Mission

To rescue abandoned and feral cats. Transfer to shelter if adoptable if not adoptable feralsemi feral have them spayed, neutered and released to barn, same location or other location with shelter and a food source based on situation. To support community feral cat colonies providing food and vet care. These efforts are made to decrease the population on the seacoast and surrounding areas.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. SAFER's on going efforts over the past 20 years have led to a noticeable decrease of feral cats on the Seacoast. The majority of cats that require SAFER's assistance are now found to be adoptable after trapping and assessing. These cats are transported to local shelters for adoption. 85 adoptable cats helped in 2025. Being an established and known feline rescue in the area has helped to quickly facilitate removing these cats from the streets prior to procreating which in turn eliminates the return of a feral cat population. With populations down on the Seacoast we have been able to help more communities in New Hampshire and Southern Maine.

Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income fell $8k → $1k.

2 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 32% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SEA COAST AREA FELINE EDUCATION & RESCUE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SEA COAST AREA FELINE EDUCATION & RESCUE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 45% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

77% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SEA COAST AREA FELINE EDUCATION & RESCUE INC.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2020 87% · 2021 80% · 2022 73% · 2023 66% — diversifying over time.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $6k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
