Mission
The Royal Oak Historical Society is a volunteer organization that collects, displays and preserves information and objects about the city of Royal Oak, Michigan's past, for current and future generations. We present various special exhibits and presentations throughout the year and provide a venue for other groups and individuals to display their collections.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Our organization hosts an annual dinner in October for our members and their guests. The event features a buffet dinner and includes the election of officers and directors for the upcoming year. Additionally, we present the Bowman and Morrison awards to two distinguished members or volunteers who have made significant contributions to preserving the history of Royal Oak. We also bestow the Spirit of Royal Oak award upon a local business or organization in recognition of their dedication and support to our community.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $103k to $163k (+58%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
79% of ROYAL OAK HISTORICAL SOCIETY’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (64% for the typical peer).
