01What it does

What Rolling Readers Space Coast Inc does

Mission

To inspire children's love of reading, touch their imaginations and creativity through books and build a community of successful, life-long readers by providing trained, committed volunteers and new books to at-risk elementary aged school children.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. Rolling readers has been sharing the joy of reading with brevard county children since 1997. Our mission is to develop in chidren a desire to be lifelong readers. Research shows reading skills are the foundation needed to help children achieve success in education and in life. With close to 60 volunteers during 2024-2025, we provided weekly read aloud sessions in classrooms (pre-kindergarten through fifth grade), and tutor/mentor services for struggling second and third grade readers. During the 2024- 2025 school year, we reached out to students in 12 brevard county title I schools through our read aloud program,tutor/mentor reading skills program, and grade level reading intervention program. In march, each child participating in one of our programs received a hard cover book as a gift. For some, this is the first book they can call their own. Classroom teachers also receive a gift book for their classroom library. Rolling readers is making a difference in the lives of area children, one book at a time.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 4 funders, grant income rose $9k → $25k.

3 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 35% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ROLLING READERS SPACE COAST INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ROLLING READERS SPACE COAST INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 43% of grant income and the top three 92%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

79% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ROLLING READERS SPACE COAST INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $50k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
