01What it does

What Race Cancer Foundation Inc does

Mission

RACE Cancer Foundation fights cancer through action and prevention. Our running events promote health and wellness in the community, reducing the risk of cancer while raising funds and awareness for organizations dedicated to fighting cancer and impacted individuals. Our beneficiaries' programs create opportunities to reduce and detect cancer through education, prevention, and screening measures. RACE Cancer's Sunscreen Squad fights skin cancer by bringing free sunscreen dispensers to outdoor events across New England.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. RACE Cancer Foundation produced races and running challenges engaging well over 2,000 runners, cyclists, and walkers. The Tour de Barnstable increased participation from just over 200 finishers in its first year to over 300 in 2025. Additional events included our Winter Challenge, Super Sunday 5k/5M, Summer Series races, Oktoberfest 5k, and Charles River Half Marathon. Staying physically fit reduces the incidence of many types of cancer and has a positive impact on the lives of cancer survivors.

  2. RACE Cancer Foundation donated $4,000 directly to the Fishman family and $1,500 to the Matt Fishman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship funds are for a high school student who is pursuing music, either as a performer or composer, if they have been impacted by cancer or another medical hardship, either personally or through a family member. Additionally, RACE Cancer Foundation donated $1,443 to the Peter J Musto Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship seeks to honor the life of Peter J. Musto by supporting students from Pennsylvania who have been affected by cancer, either through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a family member

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 2 funders, grant income rose $7 → $111.

1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 7% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of RACE CANCER FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

RACE CANCER FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 47% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 2 funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $29 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
