01What it does

What Paris Brain Institute America Inc does

Mission

Our mission is to advance neuroscience research in the united states by supporting innovative studies, promoting collaboration among scientists, and providing funding that drives meaningful discoveries to improve human health and understanding of the brain.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Glioblastoma is the most common and most aggressive type of brain tumor. With an incidence of 3 cases per 100,000 people in north america and europe, it accounts for half of primary malignat brain tumers. Cancer treatment has made tremendous progress over the past decade. However the prognosis for glioblastoma remains very poor: with the current standard of care, only 10% of patients are expected to survive five years after their diagnosis. It is therefore essential to increase research efforts specific to glioblastoma and to provide new therapeutic approaches.

  2. Severe brain injuries can occur at any stage of life. They can be caused by external events like a motor vehicle accident, sports activity, or internal events like a stroke or heart attack. Thanks to improved treatment, the rate of patients who survive after suffering severe brain injuries is increasing. While some of these patients regain full consciousness after a transient state of coma, others may develop more complex and lasting disorders of consciousness and be behaviorally unresponsive even though they open their eyes or show very minimal, hard to detect, signs of consciousness. The importance of accuracy in such a diagnosis cannot be overstated: it guides treatment allocation and could make the difference between an end-of-life decision or a sustained intensive care.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

3 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 13% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $180k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
