What Our House of the Way does
Mission
Our objective is to improve the community through identification of individuals and families in need and provide material and spiritual help. We promote growth and support while assisting families in need of love and to awaken the need for mutual assistance among us all.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
The Auta de Souza Fraternal Food and Clothes aims to take the sublimity of the teachings of Jesus, through spiritual teachings, to the visited homes, in the form of a word of confort and good spirit, a teaching or loving vibrations, through messages, as well as raising donations for families that lack food, clothing, and goods. Volunteers visit home door to door in Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor areas with the objective of disseminating the sprit teachings through the diffusion of messages and giving people who desire to practice charity by donating food and clothing to be distributed to needy families. The food and clothing collected is brought to our care center, prepared by volunteers, and then served/given to the the needy. Part of the donations are also organized into kits and monthly distributed to families.

The volunteers provides the clients with confidence and acceptance with love and tolerance with the hope of modifying behavior. God has ceaselessly assisted us through his envoys. We teach about Christ Jesus as an example of unceasing support and an invitation to love God and our neighbors as ourselves and to serve our community with humility. These activities also allow growth of the volunteers.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2019, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2019, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $5k to $12k (+112%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
100% of OUR HOUSE OF THE WAY’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (95% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 2 of the last 7 reported years ran a deficit.
Who funds it, year by year
2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $54 → $9k.
1 of 3 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of OUR HOUSE OF THE WAY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
OUR HOUSE OF THE WAY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 91% of grant income and the top three 100%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2021 100% · 2022 99% · 2023 87% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of OUR HOUSE OF THE WAY's grant income comes from Michigan funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $89 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
