01What it does

What Nuvista Light & Electric Cooperative Inc does

Mission

Our mission is accomplished through several energy-focused initiatives, including: regional and community energy planning, feasibility studies, energy education, and energy infrastructure projects. All projects are completed alongside non-profit and Tribal entities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of Alaska. Our work is intended to help villages, tribes, and remote communities in western Alaska become sustainable and self-sufficient through the realization of decreased energy costs and energy independence.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

During 2025, the Nuvista board voted to dissolve the organization in 2026 and transferred 4 active grants to AVCP RHA in 2025.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. Renewable Energy Plan/USDA - A variety of programs in 2025, including the ongoing development of a wind project in the YK Delta. The project will involve installing wind generation and energy storage in Kwethluk, Alaska. The intent of the project is to decrease energy costs for the community, decrease dependence on fossil fuels, increase resilience, and off-set diesel consumption. Additionally, programs to support technical assistance, and other supports to promote energy development in rural areas.

  2. ANTHC-CPRG - Engage Tribes and communities in the YK Delta region to identify and prioritize energy projects in three key sectors: electricity generation, residential energy efficiency, and non-residential energy efficiency so that they can be included in the Priority Climate Action Plan and thus be eligible for future implementation funding.
