01What it does

What Norwegian American Hospital Foundation does

Mission

Humboldt park health foundation seeks philanthropic support from individuals, businesses, foundations and community groups to help humboldt park health fulfill its mission as a premier health care provider that puts patients first and aspires to deliver consistently high quality, cost-effective, family-centered health services.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The foundation established committees to expand awareness and scope of foundation and hospital programs. In addition, medical missions were established to provide free services. For over 100 years, humboldt park health's mission has been to provide high-quality family-centered healthcare to our community. The foundation was established in 1995 as the official fundraising and gift receiving arm of the hospital. The primary purpose of the foundation is to encourage and receive contributions that enhance the delivery of high quality, comprehensive healthcare services to those who live and work in the communities serviced by humboldt park health. Today, former patients, employees, physicians, community residents, business leaders, volunteers, as well as other friends of the hospital continue to have a positive influence on the quality of health care services in the community through their generous support.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2021: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $10k → $10k.

3 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 48% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of NORWEGIAN AMERICAN HOSPITAL FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

NORWEGIAN AMERICAN HOSPITAL FOUNDATION has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 24% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund NORWEGIAN AMERICAN HOSPITAL FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

0% of NORWEGIAN AMERICAN HOSPITAL FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 1 year after their first grant; 13% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2021, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

NORWEGIAN AMERICAN HOSPITAL FOUNDATION draws 59% of its grant income from funders outside Illinois, across 3 states in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $40k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
