What Northwest Discovery Project does
Mission
To awaken wonder and promote stewardship of this region's environment through engaging exhibits, public education and wildlife rehabilitation.
As stated on its FY2019 Form 990-EZ.
Program
Our mission is to promote stewardship of washington marine life through interaction. Mlc aims to introduce visitors to the creatures in the salish sea and instill a love for the marine animals that are at home in these waters. We are active in promoting stewardship of the waterways (whatcom creek, padden creek, squalicum creek and nooksack river) and watershed that flow into the estuary of bellingham bay. Our goal is to improve, restore and maintain marine habitat for fish and invertebrates living in bellingham bay. The mlc is an exciting public interactive center where visitors can closely observe and develop a greater appreciation and connection with the animal world that lives beneath our coastal waters; a water world that is often hidden and inaccessible.
The first program described on its most recent Form 990-EZ.
The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2018 to 2019, from $26k to $0 (−100%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 2 of the last 3 reported years ran a deficit.
