What Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Study does
Mission
The advancement of psychoanalytic theory and its applications by offering a website/discussion forum, educational programs, trainings, e-newlsetters, and professional meetings.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
The Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Study (nwaps) facilitates meaningful opportunities for the ongoing professional development of clinicians throughout the pacific northwest who value psychoanalytic theory, knowledge, and practice. The nwaps website (www.nwaps.org) and discussion forum continue to offer members opportunities for exchanges on theory as well as resource and referral sharing. The website informs members and the larger psychoanalytic community about educational offerings; it also allows members to pay for classes/events online.
$16,245 spent30% of program spendingNwaps offers multiple courses and seminars each fall, winter, and spring. These are presented by alliance members and professionals from the wider psychoanalytic community. Education committee-sponsored courses and distinguished speaker committee-sponsored seminars require pre-enrollment and have a specific fee structure. Each spring for more than 25 years, the northwest psychoanalytic community has come together to experience the forum, the alliances annual conference. Master clinicians, as well as newer professionals present on a wide variety of psychoanalytic topics. Many of our members and presenters have found benefits from the online option and we expect to continue this as a way to access presenters outside the greater pacific northwest area and increase accessibility in general. The alliance also offers formal mentoring groups as a benefit to nwaps members who are in their first 10 years of clinical practice in the field of psychotherapy. Experienced therapists and psychoanalysts in the nwaps community meet virtually with participants in small groups of 4-6 people to focus on areas of personal and professional growth, case consultation, and relevant topical study. The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $206k to $226k (+10%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
41% of NORTHWEST ALLIANCE FOR PSYCHOANALYTIC STUDY’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (76% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income rose $19 → $21.
1 of 1 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 100% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of NORTHWEST ALLIANCE FOR PSYCHOANALYTIC STUDY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of NORTHWEST ALLIANCE FOR PSYCHOANALYTIC STUDY's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Too little is directly attributable to place on a map.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $79 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
